Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of purified water (500ml)
  • 10 square fish cakes (350g)
  • 1 spring onion (about 70g)
  • 1/4 onion (60g)
  • 2 green chili peppers (20g)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (24g)
  • 2 tbsp red pepper paste (40g)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (20g)
  • 1/2 tbsp coarse red pepper powder (4g)
  • 1/2 tbsp fine red pepper powder (3g)
  • A pinch of black pepper

Instructions

  1. Fold 5 fish cakes in half, then fold them in half again to make 4 layers. Leave about 1cm at both ends of the fish cake and skewer them in a zigzag pattern.
    • If you're skewering the fish cake, fold it three times and then skewer it.
    • If you don't have skewers, you can use wooden chopsticks.
  2. Cut the remaining 5 fish cakes into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Cut the spring onion in half lengthwise and then into 3cm lengths. Slice the onion into 0.8cm thick slices.
  4. Cut the green chili peppers into 0.8cm slices.
  5. In a pot, pour water and add brown sugar, red pepper paste, soy sauce, coarse red pepper powder, fine red pepper powder, and black pepper. Stir well over high heat until the ingredients are dissolved.
    • Be careful not to add too much black pepper, as it can affect the taste.
  6. Once the seasoning is dissolved, add the prepared spring onion, onion, and green chili peppers. Bring to a boil.
  7. When the broth is boiling, add the fish cakes and simmer over medium heat for about 6 minutes, stirring with a ladle.
